Are guinea pigs good pets?

Guinea pigs can be friendly...one of mine is really friendly, if you go out into the garden she runs right at you. But my other guinea pig was traumatised because the family who owned her last treated her really badly, so we don't hold her unless absolutely necessary because she starts quivering and her eyes go boggly XD But they can be really good pets, and they like being held and paid attention to.
