Advice for First time visitors to smokey mountians TN in July?

Hi, We are planning to go to SMokey mountains, TN. This is my first trip to there. It is also my first long drive. In view of time contraint to one day, we can spend one full day in smokeys, I know one day is not enough though. Please suggest me What are the places to see there, how can i cover and drive on those back to back roads for a first time visitor without getting lost. This time we are not into activites like rafting or tubing etc, its good enough for us to see scenic places. Thanks in Advance
